Okay, I really love my students.  I really really do.  And I want to see all my seventh graders come back next year and to actually establish some kind of firm foundation for the math curriculum here because no one has really stayed long enough to manage, or at least no one with math training, BUT

My salary is going down about $2,000 due to a parent/principal/priest rating system that no one can really explain to me beyond “she writes numbers down and tries to make sure it doesn’t look too high or too low”  which would explain why I got rated higher as a disciple of Christ then I did as being familiar with the class material.  They are taking away one of my plan periods next year, which considering I only get half an hour most days is very distressing, and there is a new clause in my contract stating that termination can now occur for now even verbalizing opinions not held by the Catholic church.  So all the things I say because I don’tknowabout random rules like not eating before communion or that the donation of certain organs is okay but not others, and Father doesn’t really approve of any of it, so just keep quiet.  And the misogyny.  Dear lord, the crap spewed about the girls being more modest and then boys being trained to protect the women from making the wrong decisions (direct quote).

I love these kids, and sometimes that’s enough, but I can’t be a one-woman representation that there is another life out there, outside of this community that judges so much and supports so little if you stray from the norm.  I can’t spend so much time biting my tongue at some of the hateful things I hear because argying could lose me either my autonomy in the classroom or my job.

Contract is due Friday, whether I sign it or not.
